Some customers may just want to use our web hosting services as they have email and DNS elsewhere. In this guide we will walk through the steps for setting this up.
Adding the domain
- Login to your cp.purely.website account.
- Using the left menu, click Websites, then click Add Website.
- If you have multiple packages, ensure the correct one is selected from the drop down.
- Click the Start from scratch box, enter your domain name minus the www. and click Add.
- That’s it your new domain has been added.
Disabling the email service
- Click on the website you wish to setup external email records for.
- Using the top menu click Domains, then click again on your domain name.
- Click Mail routing settings, then tick Remote Mail.
- You will now be shown the message, Email MX records needed. Remote mail requires MX records to be added for your chosen email provider. Add your MX records using the DNS records tool below.
- Click the Add Record button, using the drop down under the heading Type, select MX and enter the Hostname, Priority, Target domain and TTL as provided by your email supplier.
- Click Create. Repeat this as many times as needed.
What DNS record to use
You now need to point your domain name to your hosting account. If you were using us for email and web hosting, we would recommend using our nameservers, but for just web hosting you can point your domain to us via an A record. The IP address you need to use would depend on the server you’re hosted on. To find this,
- Login to your cp.purely.website account.
- Click websites, the domain you’re working on, then on the right side you will see the At a glance panel and the Website IP address.
Its recommend to setup an A record for the root domain, e.g @ yourdomain.co.uk then a CNAME alias for your www. record.
