A Records

An A record (Address Record) maps a domain name to a specific IPv4 address, enabling web browsers to locate and connect to the correct server hosting a website.

If you wish to use the root domain (e.g., yourdomain.co.uk without any subdomains), then you need to enter the @ symbol. This ensures the record applies to the main domain itself rather than a specific subdomain like www or mail.

Adding a new A record

  1. Login to your cp.purely.website account.
  2. Click websitesclick the domain you wish to work on.
  3. Click Domains, again click on the domain you want to manage the DNS record A record on, click DNS Records.
  4. Click Add Record, ensure A is selected from the drop down.
  5. Enter @ if you want to apply the record to the main domain, or enter your subdomain if you wish to set that up, e.g. mail.
  6. Enter the IP address you need to use.
  7. Set the TTL to whatever you require, generally 1 day is fine. Click Create.
