Google Search Console – How to verify domain ownership using TXT records

Verifying your domain name ownership for Google Search Console via DNS involves adding a specific TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings. Here’s a breakdown of the process.

  1. Login to your Google Search Console.
  2. Click on Add property and choose Domain as the property type. Enter your domain name and click Continue.
  3. You will now be provided with a unique TXT DNS record. You’ll need to copy this code for the next step.
  4. Now head over to the DNS section of your control panel, and create a DNS zone if you don’t have one already.
  5. Once you’ve setup the DNS zone, you will need to add the TXT record.
    1. Click Add record.
    2. Select TXT from the drop down.
    3. In the Name field enter @
    4. Leave the TTL default.
    5. In the TXT data field enter your unique TXT record provided by Google.
    6. Click Confirm.
  6. Go back to Google Search Console and click the Verify button for your domain property.
