OPcache is a PHP extension that stores precompiled PHP code in memory, so your scripts do not need to be read and compiled on every page load. This reduces the work the server has to do and can noticeably improve load times, particularly for PHP applications such as WordPress. OPcache is disabled by default on purely.website hosting packages, but can be enabled in a few clicks from your control panel.
- Login to your cp.purely.website account.
- Using the left menu, click Websites, then click on the website you wish to enable OPcache for.
- Click Advanced, then click Optimisation.
- Click Enable OPcache.
OPcache will start caching your PHP scripts straight away, no changes to your website code are needed.
If you make changes to your PHP files and they do not show on your website straight away, you can clear the cache by restarting the PHP container
For WordPress websites, OPcache works well alongside Redis object caching. See How to use Redis with WordPress for details.
