A 301 redirect is a permanent redirect, indicating that a page has moved to a new URL. Search engines update their index to reflect this change, transferring the original page’s SEO value to the new page.
A 302 redirect is a temporary redirect, suggesting the move is not permanent. Search engines do not transfer the SEO value to the new URL, as they expect the original page to return.
In short, use 301 for permanent moves and 302 for temporary ones.
